The World Cup Round of 16 came to East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, July 5, with Norway weathering a storm of scoring chances from Brazil before running out winners thanks to two late goals scored by Golden Boot contender Erling Haaland. This was the next-to-last World Cup match played locally at NY/NJ Stadium, and photographer Irish Maliborski captured the following photos from the Meadowlands for New York Soccer Journal. Haaland and Norway stole the show, sending Brazil out of the tournament and sending Seleçao legend Neymar out of international soccer, with the forward announcing his retirement from the national team following the defeat.
