Brooklyn FC just announced that its women's team parted ways with general manager Kevin Tenjo, head coach Tomás Tengarrinha, and Tengarrinha's assistant, Francisca (Chica) Silva Almoster Moura Ferreira.
Tenjo was involved with the Brooklyn USL Super League side for both seasons of its existence, joining BKFC's front office in December 2024 as the first-ever sporting director for both the men's and women's teams.
A former goalkeeper for the New York Cosmos, Tenjo did his most hands-on work with the women's squad, and actually finished the 2024/25 season serving as the club's interim head coach after Brooklyn dismissed its first-ever women's coach, Jessica Silva.
Silva's dismissal followed a brutal stretch of nine games without a win coming out of the league's winter break in early 2025, as Brooklyn went from holding a six-point lead at the top of the Super League table to outright missing the playoffs by the end of that debut 2024/25 campaign.

Tenjo remained in his role with Brooklyn despite the October 2025 arrival of United States men's national team and Fulham FC legend, Brian McBride, as the new Brooklyn FC general manager tasked with overseeing both the men's and women's teams.
At the time of McBride's hiring, Brooklyn FC's president, David Barry, shared a statement with me confirming that Tenjo would continue to work for BKFC, saying at the time, "Kevin remains a vital member of our sporting leadership. He will work closely with Brian McBride as we continue to build the women’s team for the 2025/26 season and build out the men’s team, contributing to roster and staff planning and related operations."
Now as Tenjo departs, McBride is quoted as saying, "Kevin helped establish important foundations for Brooklyn FC during a pivotal period in the club’s growth, and Tomás and Chica brought passion and dedication to our women’s team every day. As we look ahead, we are committed to building a culture and sporting identity that positions Brooklyn FC for long-term success."
The on-field success just hasn't been there for the Brooklyn FC women despite starting out that first half-season of competition looking like one of the league's top teams.
Since the calendar flipped from 2024 to 2025, the Brooklyn FC women hold a combined (across a half-season and a full season) record of 7W-15D-20L with a -28 goal differential.
Tengarrinha's arrival ahead of the 2025/26 season didn't solve Brooklyn's problems, as his record in charge was 6W-8D-14L and only good enough for 7th place in the nine-team USL Super League. Brooklyn says the club "will immediately begin the search for the club’s next general manager of the women’s team and head coach."
So far, McBride's biggest hire while running Brooklyn's sporting operation has been appointing Marlon LeBlanc as men's coach in the USL Championship. That expansion squad is off to a slow start of its own in the USLC, sitting in 12th place in the 13-team Eastern Conference, with their six losses the third-most out of the 25 teams in the Championship.
