No time for New York City FC to dwell on that late-Sunday-afternoon win because it's once again Matchday and they're once again facing Charlotte FC, with New York City stepping out onto the artificial turf of Bank of America Stadium for the first time since they eliminated the home team from the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Both these teams have identical 4W-3D-5L records as they enter this midweek encounter, and yes, this will be the third straight MLS match in which NYCFC has faced an Eastern Conference opponent with an identical record and points total. In the early going, everyone is bunched together with similar point totals from 4th place down to 12th in the East, with New York City in 7th and ahead of Charlotte in 8th thanks to a superior goal differential.

Last time out, New York City got a hat trick from Hannes Wolf and kept only their second clean sheet of the season while snapping a seven-game winless streak in a 3-0 win over Columbus Crew. Charlotte played FC Cincinnati to a 2-2 draw in their last game, and they enter the NYCFC clash stuck in a four-match winless rut in MLS. Charlotte's last win across all competitions came against...New York City FC, when these teams last met.
