Introducing the New York Soccer Journal

Welcome to your new source for independent, in-depth coverage of soccer in New York.

New site, new look.

New York Soccer Journal arrives with a simple mission.

We're here to cover soccer, at all levels, in and around New York City. Our mission is to deliver quality daily coverage that serves the local community of readers and listeners who value it.

We also exist to provide a platform for aspiring and early-career sports writers and journalists, people who can gain valuable first-hand experience covering professional soccer in their backyards.

New York Soccer Journal aims to fill the void left by Hudson River Blue shutting down in March. In-depth coverage of New York City FC and Major League Soccer will remain a cornerstone of what we do.

We will also consistently cover Gotham FC of the NWSL, the Brooklyn FC men's and women's teams in USL's Championship and Super League, and the Cosmos in USL League One, while dedicating plenty of other inches across our digital pages to things like the United States men's and women's national teams, other local lower-league teams, and big international competitions like the FIFA World Cup and Olympics, or high-profile club friendlies, whenever they come through the Tri-State Area.

Above all, we strive to be your source for reliable, informative, entertaining coverage that's independent and fair, offering an insider's view of what happens on and off the pitch.

New York Soccer Journal also aims to be sustainable and durable while existing in an ever-changing, volatile sports media landscape. To that end, NYSJ is a nonprofit that is entirely dependent on paid subscribers and one-time donors to fund our costs of operation.

All funds we collect from our subscribers or donors get reinvested straight back into making this operation tick. That means covering our overhead costs, but it can also mean paying writers for their work, funding travel expenses for match coverage, and expanding and deepening what New York Soccer Journal offers its readers and subscribers. Your generosity and support will make it possible for the work to continue.

I'm the founder and editor of the site, but I'm not doing this alone, as a number of the writers and podcasters you recognize from HRB will carry on their great work here. We already have plans in motion to expand our coverage in the earliest days of the NYSJ — get ready for a brand new podcast we'll be launching soon, for one example of a new initiative at our new outlet.

We hope you'll join us on this ride. Subscribe now to one of our paid tiers — starting as low as $3 per month or $30 annually — and get access to every word we publish.

Or, if you're not up for another subscription, we will gladly take a one-time donation for as little as $5 and will be forever grateful for your support as we embark on this new chapter.

Cheers,

Andrew Leigh
Founder and editor, New York Soccer Journal
