Scouting Charlotte FC: 5 Things to know before the midweek clash

Charlotte is winless in four and Wilfried Zaha appears to be on the way out, but they may have found their center-back of the future and they still have Pep Biel scoring and creating.

New York Soccer Journal spoke with Daniel Bramlette of Soccer City CLT to learn more about Charlotte FC, New York City FC's opponent on Wednesday night in North Carolina. Here is your NYCFC vs Charlotte preview.

Charlotte FC at a Glance

• League Form: D-L-L-L-W

• Record: 4W, 3D, 5L | 15 points, 8th place

• Scoring Leader: Pep Biel, 6 goals

• Assist Leader: Pep Biel, 4 assists

1. Winless in four

New York Soccer Journal: Since defeating NYCFC on April 18, Charlotte is winless in its last four MLS games, conceding 11 goals and scoring just five. What’s changed since Charlotte’s last league victory?

Daniel Bramlette: It’s extra-frustrating because you really can’t point to just one thing. Tim Ream was injured for a few games, Wilf Zaha looks more checked out and ready to leave every week, and we’ve had more than our fair share of bad luck and questionable refereeing decisions (the New England loss stands out in particular for that last one).

It’s worth noting that the losing streak has all been on the road, and we like to think we have one of the better homefield advantages in MLS, though our “return home” Saturday vs FC Cincinnati saw us play one great half and one awful half, so who even knows anymore.
