• Seymour Reid to Sporting Kansas City on loan through May 2027

David Lee wasn't letting the MLS secondary transfer window end without getting his hands on at least one of his former New York City FC players.
No luck with Nico Fernández Mercau, but Seymour Reid will have to suffice, as Lee's Sporting Kansas City acquired NYCFC's 18-year-old striker on loan through the end of the 2027 sprint season in exchange for $75,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM), with a potential bonus of $50,000 more in GAM if Reid meets certain performance goals.

Reid appeared in 14 matches for NYCFC this season across all competitions, scoring no goals but adding one assist, a helper on Agustín Ojeda's opener against Westchester SC in the US Open Cup earlier this spring. His New York City FC career to date stands at 29 appearances in all comps with one goal and one assist. He's been more prolific at MLS Next Pro level, scoring 15 goals in 22 appearances across two seasons.
The 18-year-old became NYCFC's 17th Homegrown player when he signed a first-team contract in May 2025, but he remains blocked at center forward here in New York, with Luighi and Bénie Traoré newly arrived this summer, and with Alonso Martínez advancing in his rehab and expected back in the squad later this month. Reid should get more minutes in Kansas, with SKC just selling off their top-choice No 9, Dejan Joveljić, who was traded to Seattle Sounders FC.
Reid's loan stipulates that NYCFC can recall him "if Reid does not meet a minutes threshold from now through the remainder of the 2026 season," so it's written into the deal that Reid gets more minutes with Kansas City than he was getting from Pascal Jansen in New York — Reid only played 116 total minutes in MLS this season, so we'll see what he can do with last-placed Kansas City and with more numerous opportunities.
• Welcome, GAM + SuperDraft pick: NYCFC trades international slot to Toronto

An "only in Major League Soccer" transaction announced the morning after the close of the summer transfer window: New York City FC acquired $175,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and Toronto FC's 2027 MLS SuperDraft Second Round pick in exchange for a 2026 international slot.
Toronto traded an international slot of its own to San Diego FC to pick up Lewis Morgan, the former Red Bull New York and Inter Miami CF attacker from Scotland, so TFC acquires a replacement almost immediately by swinging this deal with NYCFC.
Later-round SuperDraft picks have been useful for NYCFC in recent years, since they selected MLS-caliber players like Arnau Farnós (2025, Round 3, pick #84), Nico Cavallo (2025, Round 3, pick #88), Taylor Calheira (2024, Round 3, pick #66), and Kevin O'Toole (2022, Round 2, pick #34) outside the First Round. Check back in December to see if Todd Dunivant strikes some gold with this Second Rounder acquired for an unused international slot.

The MLS transfer window closes in the wee hours of Thursday morning (1:00 am ET), but New York City FC reportedly is still out there shopping for new signings. According to a report from Tomasz Włodarczyk, NYCFC submitted a bid for 23-year-old Colombian midfielder Camilo Mena of Lechia Gdańsk in Poland.
